Description

A work of dedication and artistic love, really. Not much because of the concept itself (I mean, already done similar things a couple of times...) but mostly because of the new techniques I used and effects I tried to practice, as well as the incorporation of a decent background. This is mainly a study/experiment on light and shadows, it isn't perfect in any way, but as long as I realize that when I paint or draw I can improve, and that's my real goal.

Another reason why I kinda like this work is my primary inspiration source, the soundtrack for the amazing Haya Miyazaki film Ponyo on the cliff by the sea, written by Joe Hisaishi (he's written all soundtracks to Hayao's films, I think) which first inspired the very concept and which I listnened to alot when I was painting (along with some Mozart and Bach, gotta love 'em classics yo). I got so captured by how he managed to make the music sound like the ocean, and fit so seemlessly with the movie. Arguably his best soundrack. I tried to capture at least some of that feel, the honest beauty of it.

And in case you wonder, no she isn't suposed to be Ponyo from the movie as an adult or anything, just named the work this as a tribute of sorts.

Used Mypaint (great free software painting program) and a Wacom Intous 4 drawing tablet.
